In Edirne, the driest period in the last 90 years, while the occupation rate in ponds and dams decreased to critical points, the Meriç and Tunca rivers, which were used for the irrigation of agricultural lands and reached the agenda for years with floods, saw the lowest level. According to DSI data last week, the Tunca river flow decreased by 2 cubic meters / second, while the Meriç river, which formed islets, saw 60 cubic meters / second in the city, which did not receive seasonal rains. While the birds created new habitats on the islets formed in the Meriç River, which was drying up, the low water level caused the bloom of algae (algae) in the Tunca River.
THE FLOWS OF MÉRICA AND TUNCA INCREASED
The 11th Regional Directorate of DSI Edirne measured the Tunca River, which was 2 cubic meters / second, as 7 cubic meters / second in its last measurements. It was announced that the Meriç River increased 3 times from 60 cubic meters / second to 160 cubic meters / second. Officials explained that the increases in the river are due to rainfall in Bulgaria and the region.
The people of the region also welcomed the increased flows in the rivers. Osman Almadık, who is in charge of restaurant management and agriculture in Edirne, stated that they were very impressed by the drought: “The decrease in river flows worried us farmers. I have never seen such a drought. The river where the birds used to live on the islets in recent days now flows beautifully. I hope the increase in water flow continues. ” said.
According to meteorological data, 14 kilograms of rain fell per square meter in the last 3 days in Edirne. The increasing rain in the city is said to continue through Tuesday.
DSI: THERE WILL BE NO FLOODING
On the other hand, in the statement of the Eleventh DSI Edirne Regional Directorate, it was pointed out that the effective rains in Edirne will increase the flow of the Meriç and Tunca rivers, but will not generate risk of flooding. According to estimates made in the Meriç, Tunca and Arda river basins in Bulgaria, the rains are expected to continue in the coming days. However, it is expected that it does not pose any risk of flooding, so it is necessary to be careful and cautious with the activities that may be affected in and around the river routes.
