The Deputy Director General of State Hydraulic Works (DSI), Oğuz Kasap, gave the following information to the deputies in the Assembly;
“THE CRACK IS REMOVED IN MELEN”
“The Melen Dam was actually considered a clay-core rock fill during initial planning, but no suitable clay was found in that area and no rock could be found. Therefore, the front face of the rock was turned into a concrete covered rock and some obstacles were formed in it. If we had seen this at that time, the necessary measures would have been taken. There is a little problem on the right side, there are 3 cracks, we will end up making a fill in the part rear.
DROUGHT EVERY 10 YEARS
This drought occurs almost every ten years. According to our calculations, there are 3 more months of water in Istanbul. Already in October and November, the water is collected with rain. Therefore, we do not believe that there will be problems from now on. We will fill it with rain in December, January and February. But what we care about is Melen first and the other dams we’ll build later. We joined our General Manager of İSKİ, they also contributed, what we do in which dams, how much water will we collect, we started to work together. There is no doubt that they also contribute to us. Therefore, we will not only be happy with Melen, but little by little we will put other dams into operation. But we will finish Melen before 2024-2025, which we envision for Istanbul. “
