Following the European Union (EU) Foreign Ministers Summit, a leaders’ summit is expected to be held on Thursday and Friday.
In Greece, before the summit on relations with Turkey, a great disappointment will be put on the table. The Kathimerini newspaper wrote at the foreign ministers’ summit that the most intense resistance to Greece’s proposals came from Germany.
Germany opposed the sanctions on Turkey since Italy, Spain, Malta, Poland and Hungary gave their support.
Germany’s position alongside Turkey, although it had a strong reaction in Athens, came news of a resignation.
Michalis Mailis, director of the Greek-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce, announced that he resigned from his 12-year post. Mailis’ grandfather, who has been with the organization for more than 30 years, is the founder of the Greek-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
Kathimerini reports that Mailis resigned on the grounds that the Berlin administration avoided sanctions and did not stop arms sales.
