The last words of all the defendants were heard in the case in which 132 people were tried for the actions of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) at the headquarters of the Land Forces Command (KKK) during the attempted coup of 15 July 2016.
According to the AA report, some of the defendants were present at the hearing held by the 19th Ankara Superior Criminal Court at the Sincan Campus of Penal and Enforcement Institutions. Some defendants, on the other hand, attended the hearing through the Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS) from the prison where they were being held under coronavirus measures.
One of the defendants whose last word was heard at the hearing, former Lt. Col. Sinan Şimşek, branch manager of the Land Forces Command Appointment Department, argued that his experiences on July 15 were unchecked with professional reflexes and that He had no intention of committing a crime and demanded his acquittal.
The former head of the KKK Force Development Department, Brigadier General Erhan Caha, argued that what happened at the Land Forces Command on July 15 was in accordance with the law and that the situation in the barracks could not be associated with the knock. Caha, who described the attempted coup as an “alleged coup”, claimed that the court did not give a fair trial. Claiming that he did not commit any crime, Caha requested acquittal.
Former Brigadier General Adem Boduroğlu, head of the Department of Current Command Operations and Control of the Land Forces Command at the time, argued that the Land Forces Command was not captured and that no orders were given and orders were taken from there. Stating that no command and control system was used at the Land Forces headquarters, Boduroğlu claimed that they were tried for being members of an armed terrorist organization but that they did not use weapons.
Boduroğlu, “We did not take orders from anyone. The headquarters of the Land Forces Command did not participate in the coup attempt. None of these people are coup plotters. I want my acquittal.” said.
Former Brigadier General Ali Rıza Çağlar, head of the Department of Combat Preparation and Training of the Land Forces Command, stated that all his statements are the same from the prosecutor’s office: “All the evidence shows that I did not commit a crime. I demand an end to injustice against me. ”He spoke.
Former Land Forces Command Chief of Staff, Colonel Hüseyin Öztürk, wished the court some comfort, while Dinçer Öternas claimed that he had refuted all defamation allegations with evidence and demanded acquittal.
Former KKK counterterrorism operations officer Lieutenant Colonel Tanju Aydıncık argued that the Land Forces administrative investigation report and witnesses were not found guilty.
Former Colonel Erkan Erol said he denied the crimes and demanded acquittal. Former Major Mesut Şahan claimed that everyone at Nizamiye Gate No. 1 during the attempted coup wanted to be heard as witnesses and that the witnesses had proven their innocence and requested acquittal.
Other defendants also requested acquittal. When announcing the interim decision after hearing the last words of all the defendants, the court ruled the continuation of the arrested defendants and stated that the hearing for the decision of the case will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at 10:00.
