WALL – The trial against CHP President Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and the delegation accompanying him in the attack that took place at Piyade Er Yener Kırıkçı’s funeral in Ankara Çubuk began in the Çubuk Second Criminal Court of First Instance on April 21 of 2019.

In the case, 36 defendants, 6 of whom are women, are being tried with a prison demand that ranges from 1 year 8 months 15 days to 28 years and 10 months.

‘FORGOTTEN, A LONG TIME HAS PASSED’
Osman Sarıgün, who struck Kılıçdaroğlu, was identified. Sarıgün rejected the accusations against him in his defense and said that the statement he gave at the police department was valid. Sarıgün replied, “I forgot, it’s been a long time,” to the judge’s words, “Tell me how it happened.” The judge read Sarıgün’s statement at the police station.
Sarıgün repeated the statement “I’m sorry for the incident, I apologize to Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu” in his security statement. Sarıgün’s lawyer denied the crime of defamation, claiming that the fist was thrown in negligence.

Kılıçdaroğlu’s lawyer, Celal Çelik, pointed out that Sarıgün was defending his defense against the crime and stated that Sarıgün should be tried for attempted murder. Explaining that he committed the crime of ‘defamation’ when he showed Kılıçdaroğlu as responsible for the martyr’s death, Çelik emphasized that the slogans that Sarıgün shouted on the day of the incident were also incited to commit a crime and called for additional defense.

Attorney Celal Çelik noted that it was clear from the images that Ortapınar defended the prayer mat in his hand against Kılıçdaroğlu.

The defendant Ortapınar stated that he had no intentions for Kılıçdaroğlu and that he did not throw the prayer mat at him and said: “But I apologize. He is also the leader of the party. I have no personal problems, “he said.

Defendant Yusuf Free, in his defense of throwing a piece of earth at Kılıçdaroğlu, said that he threw the pulverized earth on the ground and said: “It was already blown up through the air.” Lawyer Celal Çelik stated that Serbest was at every point in the ‘lynching attempt’ against Kılıçdaroğlu and added that they would ask for additional defense against other crimes.
