Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer organized a common-minded gathering called “Izmir Hour” to build a life in Izmir that is at peace with nature, disaster resistant, free and in harmony.
In the meeting attended by non-governmental organizations, social entrepreneurs, artists and representatives of the private sector, ideas were exchanged on the changes planned to be made in the city.
THERE IS A DARK PICTURE
Speaking at the meeting, Tunç Soyer said that they made an attempt to continue the atmosphere of unity that occurred in conditions of pandemic and disaster.
Referring to the water shortage experienced in the dams in İzmir, Soyer said: “There is a picture dark enough to say that I am losing sleep. We are going very seriously. This concern is not only due to the lack of rain in November. Very seriously, İzmir is going to suffer a drought. We squeeze it with our own feet. We got into extremely wrong production processes.
For decades we have mixed with product patterns that never should have been. We need to change this point of view as soon as possible. We need to create much healthier production patterns and choose products based on the basin.
We need to know the quantity of these and the marketing work. We need to raise awareness about the use of water in agriculture, industry and the home. “I am extremely concerned about the current process.” (UAV)
