Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu attended the evaluation meeting on the fight against violence against women and domestic affairs held in Ankara. Stating that 234 women were killed between January 1 and November 22, 2020, Soylu said:
– It turned out that 90 percent of the women who were murdered in the first six months of 2020 had not previously reported to our police units. I want to express that we are faced with a lot of misinformation.
– We have almost 500 thousand law enforcement officers. A teşkilatımız said that it is spread throughout Turkey. We have the ability to follow up on all the facts on this issue that are framed within the framework of 6284 (Law for the Protection of the Family and Prevention of Violence against Women).
WHY WE GIVE THE BAD FIGURES
– We get these numbers every morning. Can we reduce it, where do we lack … We all do our part. We are almost condemned to see how this happens.
– Why should we give these numbers wrong? When it increases, we say it increases, we give the numbers, we sound the alarms. When it decreases, we motivate our friends. Who are the ones who accuse us as if we were doing all the femicides? I am only to blame. What are they doing besides political violence?
THERE IS A 24 PERCENT REDUCTION BUT …
– 304 in 2016, 336 in 2019. As of November 20 this year, 234 women lost their lives in murders in the field of violence against women. It was 308 in the first 10 months of last year, 234. There is a decrease of 24 percent, but one more for us.
WHAT ARE YOU SATISFIED?
– I’m calling the men. Come to yourself. You can be physically strong. It is a shame? What do you satisfy? What are you proposing? What do you provide? What feeling do you glorify? It is a shame. The legal dimension of work is different, but in our society, our mothers have spoken since our childhood. Do not do it again.
