In two operations carried out within the scope of the investigation of the “current university student organization” initiated after the attempted coup by the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) on July 15, 39 suspects were arrested, including those responsible for the structuring student.
In the investigation conducted by the Terrorist Crimes Investigation Office of the Istanbul Attorney General’s Office, it was determined that the digital evidence obtained from the suspect MC, who was arrested for using the ByLock encrypted communication program, about a year ago, contained detailed information. about the student houses of 2019 and 2020.
Following the instructions of the prosecution, in the studies carried out by the teams of the MIT Istanbul Regional Directorate and the Istanbul Sub-Directorate of Crimes Against Smuggling, the activities of the FETO between 2019 and 2020 were determined, it was determined that they organized meetings and picnics in public areas.
As a result of the technical and physical monitoring, it was determined that after the coup attempt on July 15, students from different provinces who came to Istanbul to study at the university were instructed to stay in the FETO student houses. In the study, 8 suspects responsible for the organization’s “current college student organization” and college students staying at home were identified.
As a result of the studies, it was revealed that some of the suspects who were found responsible for the students were fugitives in the scope of the FETO investigations and were hiding in “absent houses” so as not to be captured until then.
SUSPECTORS WHO ARE CONFUSED GIVE NEW INFORMATION
Taking action in light of this information, the teams carried out the first operation in 7 Istanbul-based provinces on November 13 and arrested 28 suspects.
Five of the suspects arrested became confessors and benefited from effective provisions on repentance. The suspects gave information on the organization’s current activities towards university students in Istanbul after the July 15 coup attempt.
In the second operation organized this morning against the newly identified people according to the statements received, 11 more suspects were arrested.
Although a large number of digital materials and organizational documents were seized during the operations, it was learned that 39 suspects, including those responsible for the students, were still in the police force.
