The World Health Organization accepts Fahrettin Koca’s suggestion

The World Health Organization (WHO) accepted the recommendation of the Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca and declared 2021 as the “International Year of Health Professionals” worldwide.

Minister Koca first brought his proposal to the agenda of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe meeting on September 14-15. In making the proposal to declare 2021 as the “Year of Healthcare Professionals”, Minister Koca emphasized that his goal is to draw attention to the growing burden on healthcare workers with the emergence of the corona virus outbreak and increase the morale and motivation of all healthcare professionals with appreciation for their efforts.

The proposal was accepted with the support of all member countries at the 73rd General Assembly of the World Health Assembly held on November 11, 2020 and 2021 was declared the “International Year of Health Professionals”.

MINISTER KOCA: WE ARE READY TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY

Participating in the session via videoconference method, the Minister of Health, Dr. Fahrettin Koca noted the following in his speech:

* Our health professionals are becoming more important and responsible for our communities. The load increases as services reach a wider audience. Our duty is to ease the burden on healthcare professionals and adequately express their sacrifices.

* We must honor healthcare professionals in the face of humanity. During the period of the pandemic that we are in, what they have always done has become visible to everyone. Today’s photography is an expression of the essence of these professions. We must strive to incorporate this into the memory of the culture.

* Taking into account the dedication of healthcare professionals in the process of combating Covid-19, we transmitted our suggestion that 2021 should be the International Year of Health Professionals to the WHO. With the support of both Mr Kluge and our friends at WHO Headquarters, with contributions from other partners, especially Member States and the European Union, the necessary steps were taken to make our proposal that 2021 should be a reality. the International Year of Health Professionals. * Republic of Turkey and on my behalf, the World Health Organization recommends that we dedicate ourselves to health workers with the aim of indicating that in 2021 we are ready to take responsibility to implement in the most appropriate way that I want.
