While Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s declaration of victory against Armenia was greeted with great joy across the country, Armenia was mixed. After the declaration of the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that they had lost the war against Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh, some groups from Yerevan took to the streets and raided the Parliament building and the Prime Minister’s office.
Ararat Mirzoyan, Speaker of the Parliament of Armenia, was lynched by protesters in front of the parliament building. The protesters pulled Mirzoyan out of his car and beat him. Mirzoyan’s bodyguards were said to have been unable to prevent the attack. Mirzoyan, who was also insulted by the angry crowd, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
After images of Mirzoyan’s beating were posted on the internet, the Armenian Ministry of the Interior confirmed the incident. While Mirzoyan was claimed to be being treated at the hospital, Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan stated on his social media account that two people related to the incident were detained.
