Unemployment figures for August were announced. According to data announced by TURKSTAT, unemployment was 13.2 percent in August.

During this period, the number of employed persons decreased by 314 thousand in the agricultural sector, 91 thousand in the industrial sector and 717 thousand in the services sector, while it increased by 147 thousand in the construction sector. 19.2 percent of employees were in agriculture, 19.8 percent in industry, 6.2 percent in construction, and 54.7 percent in the service sector.

The labor force decreased by 1 million 431 thousand people to 31 million 749 thousand people in August 2020 compared to the same period of the previous year, and the labor participation rate was 50.6 percent with a decrease of 3.3 percentage points.

The proportion of non-registered employees, which shows the proportion of employees who are not affiliated with any social security institution in the total employees in August 2020, decreased by 3.2 points compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 32.9 percent. The rate of unregistered workers in the non-agricultural sector decreased 2.8 points compared to the same period of the previous year and went to 20.6 percent.

In the same period, the labor force participation rate reached 42.1 percent with a decrease of 5.4 percentage points. The rate of those who were neither studying nor employed was 30.4 percent, an increase of 0.3 points over the same period of the previous year.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased 0.3 points compared to the previous period and became 13.2 percent. The number of unemployed decreased by 78 thousand compared to the previous period and reached 4 million 101 thousand people.

The seasonally adjusted employment rate increased 0.4 points compared to the previous period and became 43.0 percent. The number of employed increased by 280 thousand people and was estimated at 26 million 952 thousand people.

The seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate increased by 0.2 points compared to the previous period and became 49.5 percent. The number of people participating in the labor force increased by 202 thousand and was estimated at 31 million 53 thousand people.

According to economic activity, seasonally adjusted employment increased by 22,000 in the agricultural sector, 106,000 in the industrial sector, 9,000 in the construction sector, and 144,000 in the services sector.
