Istanbul Technical University faculty member Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ercan listed some of the major earthquakes that he predicted in the next 100 years.
Entering the agenda with his precise comments on the earthquake in Izmir, Ercan has been expressing for 10 years that a major earthquake can occur near the island of Samos. The geology professor has long argued that the expected great Marmara earthquake will not occur before 2045.
Speaking with Melis Çalapkulu from Hürriyet, Ercan listed some of the major earthquakes that he predicted in 100 years as follows:
- Gemlik-Iznik: 7.8
- North Marmara-Istanbul-Tekirdag: 6.3-6.7 and 7.2
- Mudanya-Manyas: 7.5
- Kocaeli-Adapazarı-Düzce-Bolu: 7.4
- Cankiri-Kastamonu: 6.9
- Amasya-Tokat: 7.2
- Erzincan-Tunceli: 7.5
- Erzurum-Kars-Ardahan: 7.3
- Armenia-Georgia: 7.2
- Bingöl-Muş: 6.9
- Ağrı-Iğdır-Çaldıran: 7.5
- Van-Ercis: 6.5
- Diyarbakir: 6.8
- Hakkari-Sirnak-Yuksekova: 7.2
- Hatay-Iskenderun: 7.2
- Osmaniye-Adana-Icel-Karatas: 6.3
- Kas-Finike: 6.9
