Significant court verdict on earthquake trigger

Following the 6.9 magnitude earthquake in Izmir, an investigation was launched against Neriman K. (50), who allegedly made a provocative post on his Facebook account on October 30, by the Anatolian Prosecutor General’s Office for “Public incitement to hatred and enmity.” Neriman K., who was arrested at his home in Ümraniye as part of the investigation, was brought before the Anatolian Court of Justice in Kartal.

After the declaration procedure, the prosecutor Furkan Okudan referred Neriman K. to the Criminal Justice of the Peace of Guard of Anatolia for judicial control for the crime of “publicly inciting the people to hatred and hostility”.

The Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges of the suspect Neriman K. provoked public reaction and demanded that forensic control be applied through participation in training and awareness-raising seminars on earthquakes and disasters in the Provincial Directorate of Disasters.

The Criminal Justice of the Peace decided to implement the judicial control provisions on Neriman K. in the form of trainings and seminars on earthquake and disaster awareness within the Provincial Directorate of Disasters.
