In the 6.6 magnitude earthquake in the Aegean Sea, Mert and Eda and their 2-year-old son Ateş Küçükyumuk were buried under the rubble as a result of the collapse of the Mansuroğlu neighborhood Doğanlar apartment where they were staying.

According to the UAV news, search and rescue teams, which continued their work on the remains of the Doğanlar apartment, reached the family under the rubble within 55 hours. The teams removed the lifeless bodies of Father Mert, Mother Eda and their 2-year-old son Ateş Küçükyumuk from under the rubble.

The funeral prayer for the Aydınlı Küçükyumuk family, who died in the Izmir earthquake, was held at the Efeler Bey Mosque. Relatives of the Küçükyumuk family hugged the coffins and shed tears for a long time. After the funeral prayer, Father Mert Küçükyumuk was buried at the Efeler Kemer Cemetery, Mother Eda and her 2-year-old son, Ateş Küçükyumuk, were buried in tears by their loved ones at Yeni Hacılarkırı Cemetery in Bornova district of İzmir.

The funeral was attended by the mother of Mert Küçükyumuk, Seher and the father Aydın Küçükyumuk, the mother of Eda Küçükyumuk, Hatice and the father Abdurrahman Savran, the mayor of Efeler M. Fatih Atay, relatives and citizens of the Küçükyumuk family. Relatives of the family could barely stand.
