Günay Özışık, a tenth grader and top student in the Veterinary Department of the Western Anatolian Vocational High School of Health, managed to survive the magnitude 6.6 earthquake that occurred on Friday. Rescued 10 hours after the wreckage of the destroyed Doğanlar apartment, Özışık’s treatment continues at the Ege University Medical Faculty Hospital.
Thanking all the healthcare teams, Mother Olcan Özışık explained her son’s experience as follows:
“May Allah give immediate healing to all, give patience to the families of the deceased. My son is 15 years old. I was in Alsancak State Hospital with his brother Tanay during the earthquake. His father was also at work, Gunay was in His cousin came with him, two of them were sitting at home. When the earthquake happened, I called Gunay right away. ” I heard him pick up the phone and yell ‘Anneee’. At that time the building was demolished and buried under rubble. I called my wife and told her to go home. We couldn’t get to Günay. It took me 2 hours to get home from the hospital because of the traffic. I saw the destroyed building, I thought how my son would get out of there. Thank you. Rescue teams, police and health workers took my son out after 10 hours. He is currently in intensive care, trying to save his legs, his kidneys were injured. He will be saved with the permission of Allah. Thank God.

Noting that her son was waiting under the rubble in cold blood, the mother stated the following.
“He is a very conscientious and intelligent boy. He never got carried away while he was under the rubble. Finally, he had a cell phone in hand and he took the pictures around him because he spoke to me on the phone. He called 112 4 times. We saw him today. when she plugged in the phone. She sent me voice messages; ‘Mom said, “I’m under the rubble.” None of them reached me. When she heard that her cousin had been rescued, she yelled, “Ahmet, I’m here too, that they save me too. “During the earthquake, his cousin was coming out of the hallway and probably coming out of his room. His cousin was rescued after 2 hours. hit. His legs and waist down are crushed under the spine.”
