After the 6.6 earthquake off Seferihisar, dozens of citizens died under the collapsed buildings. It was revealed that the district municipality gave a ‘rotten’ report in 2012 and 2018 on the Doganlar and Riza Bey departments, which were destroyed by the earthquake. While both buildings were indicated in the reports to be at risk of earthquakes, it was claimed that residents of the apartments were warned. Following the report on the Doğanlar apartment at the request of the residents of the building, the authorities allegedly recommended to obtain a report from the Dokuz Eylül Earthquake Enforcement. The residents of the apartment then met in the ground floor cafe to discuss the matter and could not reach an agreement. It was stated that while some residents expressed their views on obtaining a report, some did not accept the report in order not to leave their homes and that report was not received after discussions.

‘MY FRIENDS SOLD AND LEFT THEIR HOUSES’
İrfan Güneş, who lives in the building just behind Rıza Bey’s apartment, said: “I also heard that the caries report was given. Subsequently, reinforcement was made and this work was closed with lining. A difficult situation. May God help the people. People continued to sit after the lining was done. After all, the building was full. Our building is also damaged, but on a minor level. “These are construction-related defects.”
Mehmet Kaplan, one of the citizens living in the region, said: “In 2012, a concussion report was obtained, but there were those who lived despite it. The residents of this building were probably aware of this report, but the majority of them were tenants and not owners. Renovations were made to the lower floors. There was a beauty salon and shops. There is a possibility that it originated from them, ”he said.
Bedri Onur, who lives near Rıza Bey’s apartment, said: “The building had a terrible report. He even had some friends sitting there, they sold their house because it was dangerous. They knew this building was unstable. There was strengthening, but when they did not benefit, they were exhausted. It is a valuable, central place, but the buildings are not strong ”.

SAYS THE OLD ADMINISTRATOR
Mine Serin, the former manager of Doğanlar Apartment, who reportedly gave a lousy report by the municipality in İzmir’s Bayraklı district, said he left his duty due to the dispute between the apartment’s residents. Serin said: “In the report, it was said that there was a third degree liquefaction in the soil. There was also the phrase ‘Evacuate this building and request other institutions on the subject’. I also had a meeting again. At the meeting, his friend Tahir Bey, who was sitting on the first floor, was briefed on the matter. However, they slandered him saying that we had an interest in us. I quit my job as a result of the pressure. The residents of the apartments refused to accept liquefaction and claimed that it was everywhere. I said I wouldn’t mind and I resigned from the leadership.
