The price of green plums per kilogram is almost a quarter of that of gold. Just a few months ago, green plums were sold for 4-5 lira a kilo on the market or in the markets, and now 3 of them are sold at 40 lira after the season is over.
While the price of 3 of them with approximately 50 grams is 40 lire, it reaches 800 lire per kilo. The high price of plums, which nobody buys with kilograms, is more than a quarter of gold. Also known as ‘Pregnant Plum’ because it is mainly bought for pregnant women, the plum now only meets the special needs of people.
Citizens come from outside the province and demand this plum to fulfill the last wishes of people with terminal illness as well as pregnant women. During this period, the cultivation of green plums in Turkey, whose prices were brought from Chile to Latin American countries, expressed that this is very expensive.

Fruit grower Emin Özkaya, who grows plums for those who need them, albeit at a high price, shared detailed information about the product he sold. Özkaya said: “These plums come from Chile. It is distributed to some provinces of Istanbul. In this season, they are also known as ‘Pregnant plums’. I have been holding this plum for 15 years. they do not grow this season in Turkey. Very few are found because it comes from abroad.
However, in a reverse period, the prices are expensive as we bring it to meet the special needs of people. We are currently selling 3 of them for 40 lira. All three weigh around 50 grams. Consequently, its weight is equal to 800 lire. But, of course, nobody makes a pound.
According to special requests, 2-3 packages are needed, that is, 6 or 9. Do you have a lot of buyers? No. But what we bring has buyers. Pregnant are taken when women crave them. Furthermore, they come and take them away to fulfill the dying wish of their terminally ill elders. The plum that we sold in kilograms a few days ago, we are now selling one by one. COMING FROM OUTSIDE THE PROVINCE, ALSO REQUESTED WITH CARGO
Citizens, who are aware of the ads on social media, come not only from Eskişehir but also from the surrounding provinces and demand this plum. Speaking on this issue, Özkaya said: “In this period, it is not only in Eskişehir but also in the neighboring provinces. Hence, they come from Kütahya, Uşak, Bilecik, Afyon, and even more distant provinces.
For example, ask a grocery store in Bursa. He also directs it here, saying ‘there is in Eskişehir’. You want us to ship it by freight from time to time, but we don’t ship it by freight. We give priority to those who come and receive. Of course, they do not receive a package when they arrive. Buy 5 to 10 packages. Sometimes if there are relatives here, they take him away with his vehicle. We sell it this way. We will continue to sell like this until the third month of next year.
