Fenerbahçe signed an agreement with Emre Belözoğlu for the 2020-21 season in terms of sporting directors.
Fenerbahçe President Ali Koç made the following statements at the press conference:
There is something in common to be said about Emre Belözoğlu: he is one of the most important and successful players in the history of Turkish football. In whatever team he was on, both in Galatasaray, Başakşehir, Fenerbahçe; He has been successful in the 5 biggest leagues in the world. The cups have been removed. In his time abroad he represented Turkey in the best way. He continued his football career in the best possible way.
There is no rule that all soccer players will be successful in soccer period. Some names have started big business as soccer players and managers. Emre embarks on a new career. 2018-19 Winter months, Fenerbahçe is going very badly. You get results we never expected. It is a painful process. I had a meeting with Emre Belözoğlu with the permission of my heavenly president. Emre was the captain of Başakşehir at the time. We got into trouble. “What’s wrong?” I asked. We talk about the pros and cons. It was out of the question for him to come to Fenerbahçe. We gave a speech on how to get out of the difficult situation we were in. In this speech, “What will you do next year?” I asked. I was thinking about the championship with Başakşehir. He said he wanted to go to Italy and improve his Italian. He said that his career goal is in his heart and that he wants to work both at home and abroad. I also really liked it. At the beginning of the season, some friends came to Samandıra with the idea to join the team, our coach Ersun Hoca and our coach Semih, most importantly, to transmit the spirit of Fenerbahçe, to tell the young and raise them. Emre didn’t offend us either. The heavenly president also gave us the green light. Emre returned home as our captain last year. Our business was doing well too. But at the end of the season, Fenerbahçe, the most important candidate in the championship, finished the season seventh. It has been a bad season for everyone.
We experience a pandemic process during the season. We part ways with our teacher. We didn’t have to rush to find the right teacher, research well, identify the best candidates, and work hard to get there. It would also take a process when doing this. Emre was not only the team captain but also the leader of our soccer branch, when he became the sporting director, he assumed the responsibility as the captain. It has never been negative. He shared his views with us.
Emre told me that Fenerbahçe’s biggest shortcoming was that we didn’t have the right football mentality. We leave for this. Perhaps for the first time, perhaps for the last time, we went through a different process in the history of football. We went through a process that began in August and ended in July. The sports director has a great responsibility.
Team depth is more important than ever this season. When we look at it from all angles, we think we’ve done a near-perfect job with Emre, our friends, and our teacher. Thank goodness our first 6 weeks went well. We are a young team. We are a young team as a sports director and technical delegation. There will be times when we eat behind closed doors, I hope not. But after 2 months, I see light at the end of the tunnel. The unity, union, communication between us is at the optimum point. I don’t want to welcome Emre’s home. The signature didn’t even say anything. My goal was to do all the transfers and finally explain to Emre. He had it today. The signature for me is a formality. As we discussed Emre’s conditions, we were alone. We have no other witnesses. But we don’t talk about the terms. He said, ‘Anything you appreciate is appropriate. Emre is a true Mohican. Faithful, long-suffering, altruistic, passionate, challenging … When it comes to banned, I say ‘welcome’ in an unlimited way. I think, I know, I want more than a football career in the next race. As football gets better, the institutional and cultural change will become more pronounced. Regardless of sporting success and failure, a very good job has been done at the club over the last 2 years. I guess you’ll see this better. It will be much better if the football season is successful.
EMRE BELÖZOĞLU: OUR FANS BELIEVE IN US AND TRUST US
Erol Hoca, Selçuk Şahin and members of the press who are trying to work in these difficult conditions, welcome. Is not easy. I had a childhood between Yedikule and Zeytinburnu. I would like to thank all my teachers, including the Galatasaray infrastructure. Some of my teachers passed away. I wish you mercy from Allah. Everything will be better if there are results on the field supported by scores. We brought in most of the players we wanted. I hope that Fenerbahçe survive the next few years much stronger. Hopefully if we complete the championship this year, we will make the plans for 5 years and 10 years. Our main objective is to wear this shirt in the territory of this country. We hit the road. Here I am united with our dear president. It was a special request from him, especially when it came to infrastructure. We have a team that I work with.
