The fire occurred around 20:00 on a ship anchored at the Kumcular pier in Yalı Mahallesi. Apparently, the boat anchored at the dock for maintenance about six months ago was due to the tube that the guards who were cooking had forgotten to open. The fire grew suddenly as the ship’s wooden hull ignited. Upon learning of the fire, the guards informed the fire department.

A large number of firefighters were dispatched to the scene after receiving notification. The fire, which had no victims or injuries, was completely extinguished as a result of the work of firefighters. Police teams took security measures by placing a strip around the dock where the burning ship was anchored.

One of the owners of the boat, Mehmet Doğan, what happened was caused by the negligence of the guards that we brought to our boat while we cooked. Otherwise, there is no problem on our boat. They put the tube in while they were cooking and it caught fire because there was huge furniture where they put it. The section of the ship’s cabin, where only the cockpit was burned. No one has been injured and the guards are already giving testimony at the police station. The guards are our own staff. This is a roll boat, used to transport vehicles. Our boat has been under maintenance here for about six months. The incident is entirely due to negligence, “he said.

Seyfullah Taşköprü, one of the eyewitnesses, said: “We were walking, we saw that the boat was suddenly burning. Friends immediately called the fire brigade. The fire brigade came and intervened.” The fire investigation continues.
