The Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus held a press conference with a videoconferencing method on the corona virus outbreak at the WHO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
Ghebreyesus said they were discussing the alarming stage of the corona epidemic on Friday: “As the northern hemisphere enters winter, we see that cases are increasing rapidly in Europe and North America. We know that the coming months will be tough when winter comes. “
Noting that as cases increase, so does the number of people needing a bed in the hospital and intensive care unit, the WHO Director-General noted that reaching hospital capacity and exceeding capacity is a situation very difficult and dangerous for both patients and healthcare professionals.

“WE ARE IN THIS BUSINESS FOR A LONG TIME”
“We have been in this business for a long time, but we hope that if we make smart decisions together, we can reduce incidents and ensure that primary health care and children attend school,” Ghebreyesus said in his statement.
“It is important that all governments focus on fundamental principles to help break the chains of transmission and save lives and livelihoods,” said WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus that the basic principles in question are detection of active cases, investigation of clusters in regions where the virus is common, isolation of all cases, quarantine of contacts, providing good clinical care, supporting and protecting health workers.
“184 COUNTRIES PARTICIPATE IN THE COVAX PROGRAM”
Ghebreyesus announced that 184 countries have joined the COVID-19 Vaccine Global Access Program (COVAX). Noting that Ecuador and Uruguay have recently joined COVAX, Ghebreyesus said that “COVAX represents the most effective way to share potential COVID-19 vaccines around the world, in a safe, effective and equitable manner.”
“Fair vaccine sharing, protecting high-risk communities is the fastest way to stabilize health systems and achieve a truly global economic recovery,” Ghebreyesus said of the COVAX program.
