Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mariya Zaharova responded to journalists’ questions at her regular weekly briefing. Addressing issues related to Russia’s foreign policy, Zaharova made statements about Nagorno-Karabakh.
Zaharova stated that a ceasefire had been declared between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh, but an agreement on the establishment of an observation mechanism had not yet been reached.
Zaharova said: “Our main message is to reach an agreement between the armies and establish a common observation mechanism. To our knowledge, no such work has been done so far. We hope that steps will be taken as soon as possible to establish this mechanism ”.
Defending that the final decision must be made on the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, Zaharova said: “The proposals that the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group are working on and studying are waiting at the negotiating table. “It is to ensure a reliable dialogue before determining the final status of Nagorno-Karabakh.”
REACTION TO THE EU SANCTION DECISION
Zaharova criticized the EU sanctions against Russia for the alleged poisoning of the Russian opposition leader Aleksey Navalny, saying: “It will not be possible without responding to these steps. There is no concrete evidence. Once again, we invite the European Union to return to international legal standards ”.
Stating that action was taken against Russia against allegations that Navalny was poisoned, Zaharova claimed that Germany should contact them according to the work rules of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, but that they could not find an answer.
FREE VISA WITH IRAN
Stating that he held consultations with officials from Russia’s Federal Tourism Agency (Rostourism) and Iranian officials on the Russia-Iran agreement on visa-free group tourist travel, Zaharova said: “Between Iranian President Hasan Rohani and Russian President Vladimir Putin, in 2017, Iranian citizens An agreement has been signed so that they can come to Turkey in the framework of group visa-free tourism. According to this agreement, we hope that the work will be completed as soon as possible and that the agreement will come into effect.
HUMANITARIAN AID TO NORTH KOREA
Zaharova recalled that North Korea suffered great damage due to typhoons during the last months of August and September, and said: “We continue to send humanitarian aid to friendly country North Korea. We recently sent 50 thousand tons of wheat to the country. I hope that our help will help heal the wounds of the friendly North Korean people. “
Zaharova also announced that his country continues to work on humanitarian aid to North Korea and new shipments are being prepared. (İHA)
