“WE ALWAYS EXPERIENCE CLIMATE CHANGE TOGETHER”
Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMÜ) Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Structures and Irrigation, Prof. Dr. Yusuf Demir, said he lost half of his wetlands in the last 50 years in Turkey.
Demir, who gave information about the drought in the Kızılırmak delta, made the following statements:
“Samsun and the Black Sea region, sadly, appear to be regions that are significantly affected by the summer drought. Samsun has not received the desired level of precipitation for the last 4 months. Unfortunately, we are experiencing climate change in a negative way. When we look at the wetlands of our country, we see the 3 most important areas in this region, the most important are Kızılırmak delta, Ladik lake and Suluova Yedikır dam as wetlands.
WET AREAS UNDER THE THREAT OF DROUGHT
When we examine them, we see this effect for the last 4-5 years, but this year it is more. With this process, our wetlands face a serious danger of drought. It can be said that there has been a significant decrease in the water level and, at the same time, both the habitat and the biological elements are seriously damaged. The creatures that live there are directly affected by the drought. “
