Many people who allegedly drank fake alcohol in various Izmir districts were admitted to hospitals, suffering from nausea and loss of vision. Four more people died in Urla and Ödemiş districts due to fake alcohol. While the number of deaths rose to 15, it was learned that the treatment of 20 people continued.
Hakan Ulukaya, 46, who allegedly consumed counterfeit alcohol in Urla, became ill and was transferred to Dokuz Eylül University Hospital. Ulukaya, who was sent to Manisa from here, could not be saved despite all the interventions and lost his life.
The cousins lost their lives chasing them
In Ödemiş district, six people who applied to enter Ödemiş State Hospital with complaints of nausea and vision loss were found to be consuming fake alcohol as a result of testing. Mehmet Görgülüer and Engin Dokuyucu, who drank fake drinks, died. The bodies of Görgülüer and Dokuyucu, who learned to be cousins, will be buried today.
One of those who received treatment for counterfeit alcohol at Ödemiş State Hospital died despite all interventions. The bodies of those who lost their lives were taken to the Izmir Institute of Forensic Medicine for autopsy. Although the treatment of many people who were hospitalized continued, it was known that the investigation initiated by the Izmir Prosecutor General’s Office was expanded. THEY MIXED FLAVOR IN THE DISINFECTANT
Kenan Çalışır, Chairman of the Eskişehir Regional Representation of the Chamber of Chemical Engineers, made important statements about the increase in deaths due to false alcohol use. Stating that methyl alcohol is an industrial product, Çalışır said:
Alcohol intoxication, which causes death and neurological damage, has become a common social problem in the last 10 years. During the epidemic period, they tried to produce alcoholic beverages by mixing aroma with disinfectant, which has eight different types of chemicals, except those containing ethyl alcohol, which are mainly used as surface cleaners. This resulted in the death and poisoning of many people.
– The current situation of the production, consumption and price of alcoholic beverages should be seriously reviewed. Our citizens, the environment and the national economy are seriously harmed by the production and use of counterfeit beverages. Methyl alcohol is a product for industrial use. It is strictly prohibited and cannot be used as an input in food production.
IMPOSSIBLE TO BE CONSCIOUS
– Alcohol produced with methyl alcohol lives in the consumer’s body until death. It oxidizes to formic acid and formaldehyde when drinking. They are substances that cause damage to the body. It is almost impossible for a person consuming a drink made with methyl alcohol to realize this. First, the central nervous system is affected, as the amount of use increases, circulatory system problems, respiratory disorders, diarrhea, seizures, paralysis, blindness, coma and finally death occur.
