About 60 kilometers east of Thailand’s capital Bangkok, a bus and train collided with passengers going to the temple.
Maitree Tritilanond, governor of Chachoengsao state, said that at least 20 people were killed and 29 injured in the accident. Tritilanond told reporters that rescue efforts are underway. Rescuers explained that a crane was needed to lift the bus tilted sideways during the collision.
As the rescuers’ work continues, the police shared the information that there were at least 60 passengers on the bus and claimed that the death toll could rise.
The accident was reported to have occurred around 08:05 local time near the Khlong Kwaeng Klan train station. Tritilanon said the accident occurred 63 kilometers from Bangkok, while the bus took some 60 factory workers to a ceremony.
Tritilanon also said that there is an alarm on the rails but there are no barriers to stop traffic, “Our state will place bumps and barriers on the edge of the rails to prevent such accidents, and will trim trees near the rails to increase visibility. This has been a lesson for us and we will eliminate the risk points, ”he said.
According to the World Health Organization, which continues its work within the United Nations, Thailand’s roads are one of the deadliest in the world.
