The forest fire that started in the countryside of the Bethlehem district at 10.15 am on Friday, October 9, spread in a short time due to the wind speed of 70 kilometers per hour. The fire, which spread to the Iskenderun and Arsuz districts, damaged many houses, workplaces and factories in the settlements.
The emergence of the possibility of sabotage by the fire, which was completely controlled in about 33 hours, brought some subsequent claims.
Social media accounts close to the terrorist organization claimed that the forest fires were caused by the organization called the ‘Children of Fire Initiative’.
At night in the İsmetpaşa district of İskederun, citizens claimed that a person was trying to burn down the forest in the forest area and when they noticed it, he fled unsuccessfully and took to the streets.
Police were alarmed by a group of young men standing guard in the forest near the Iskenderun-Belen road. Police searched the suspect in the wooded area. No criminal or suspicious item was found.
