Last minute … Two trains collide in Ankara: 2 dead

In the accident that occurred as a result of the collision of two freight trains one on one in ANKARA, 2 drivers were killed and 2 drivers were injured.

The accident occurred near the Kalecik train station in the Kalecik district at around 0630 hours. The empty freight train from Kayseri to Çankırı collided with the empty freight train coming from the opposite direction. The Hanifi Adem Yüksek and Ömer Baltat machines lost their lives in the accident. Other mechanics Mehmet Karaağaç and Murat Özyılmaz were injured. The injured mechanics were taken by ambulance to the Gülhane Training and Research Hospital and treated by medical teams. The bodies of the dead mechanics were taken to the Ankara Institute of Forensic Medicine after the examination.

In the accident, the locomotives of two trains and a total of 6 wagons derailed and overturned. AFAD and firefighters began work at the accident site. While the work continued to place the wagons and locomotives overturned by the cranes on the rails, the intact wagons of the trains involved in the accident were transferred to the station.

The general secretary of the United Transport Employees Union, İsmail Özdemir, who accompanied the rescue efforts at the crash site, said that empty wagons used for ore transport collided with the train going from Kayseri to Çankırı and the wagons Vacuums used for the filling of copper feedstock and the train going to Kayseri. Özdemir said: “Unfortunately we lost 2 colleagues on the scene, we also have 2 helpful friends. There was no one but 4 people on the trains.”
