Around 00:30 a fire broke out in the building where coronavirus and psychiatric patients were staying at the Dışkapı Yıldırım Beyazıt Research and Training Hospital, located in the Altındağ district. The fire that started as a result of a patient who was hospitalized in the psychiatric clinic on the 1st floor in F Block, set his bed on fire, rapidly escalated. Other floors of the building also filled with smoke. After the fire alarm was activated, many firefighters, UMKE, health teams and police were sent to the hospital. Firefighters evacuated the patients trapped in the building. While the person who set his bed on fire was injured in the fire, it was determined that 5 of the building’s patients were affected by the smoke. While patients affected by the smoke were transferred to the Emergency Department on stretchers, other patients were also transferred to polyclinics.
The fire was brought under control in a short time with the intervention of firefighters. Firefighters did cooling work in the building for a time. Health workers brought out patients waiting in the hospital garden with the possibility that there was a patient inside.

In the statement of the Ministry of Health on the fire, “A fire started as a result of the burning of a patient’s bed in the psychiatric service of Ankara Dışkapı Yıldırım Beyazıt Research and Training Hospital. Our patients, who were in the floor due to the fire, they were transferred to other clinics in the hospital.The fire was controlled by firefighters.There were no injuries or loss of life in the incident, our hospital continues to provide services without interruption.
