Ankapark, which was built by the former mayor of the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Melih Gökçek, but which remained idle and turned into a pile of iron, has come to an end. The Mayor of the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, Mansur Yavaş, took steps to recover Ankapark, the cost of which was announced at $ 750 million and handed over to a private company in 2018. An evacuation of the park was requested within 30 days .

Despite the opposition of many non-governmental organizations and academics, it was reported that the facility built will be delivered to the municipality within 30 days, otherwise it will be evacuated through the district government. The company, which began operating Ankapark and closed the park after 7 months because no customers arrived, did not pay the 26 million 400 thousand TL rent that was due on April 30, 2020.

The Metropolitan Municipality of Ankara also issued a 90-day notice to terminate the contract prior to termination. The company, which did not make the payment despite the warning, deposited TL 26 million 400 thousand in exchange for the letters of guarantee when it received the tender, which was recorded as income by the Metropolitan Municipality of Ankara.

After the 90-day completion period expired, the Municipality sent the last notice to the operator to evacuate the park within 30 days under the contract. The next destination of Ankapark will be decided by taking the opinions of non-governmental organizations, universities, trade associations and citizens.

GÖKÇEK praised

Former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek said of Ankapark, which opened in March 2019: “It was magnificent. I have traveled all over the world, what is done in Ankara is unique. There are Chinese, aspiring Qataris, there are those who are interested in Arabia. It will bring tourists to Ankara. We will enter the Guinness Book of Records, ”he said. Gökçek stated that his goal is to receive 1 million foreign tourists and 3-5 million local tourists in a few years.
