Recep Gökçe’s son spoke to SÖZCÜ: We found out in the hospital that my brother was not given the title of martyr!

18 workers died as a result of the flooding of the lignite quarry of the mining company Has Sekerler on October 28, 2014, when water accumulated in the old quarry. Recep Gökçe (81), who lost his son in the disaster and attended the funeral with broken rubber shoes, passed away yesterday at the age of a corona virus.

IT HAPPENED ON HIS LAST TRIP

The funeral prayer was made by Recep Gökçe in the Gökçeler district of the Kazancı city of the Ermenek district. Due to the coronavirus measures, only Gökçe’s relatives attended the funeral prayer held in the empty area near the cemetery.

After the prayer, Recep Gökçe was buried with prayers next to the grave of his son, Tezca Gökçe, who died in the mining disaster.

“DOCTORS SAY ‘SEND’ TO ANKARA OR KONYA ‘”

Speaking with SÖZCÜ, Recep Gökçe’s son Osman Gökçe stated that his father was infected with the corona virus 6 days ago and said:

* When my father got sick 6 days ago, he was admitted to the Ermenek State Hospital.

* Doctors said that the treatment should take place in Ankara or Konya.

* Since I live in Konya, I brought him here so we can take more care of him. Unfortunately, he lost his life despite all the interventions.

RECEP GÖKÇE’S WIFE IS ALSO POSITIVE

Osman Gökçe said that he was unable to attend his father’s funeral because he was in quarantine in Konya and said: “After my father contracted the corona virus, my mother’s test was positive. My mother is in quarantine at home and her treatment continues. “We are also in quarantine because we take my father to Konya and take care of him closely.”

Gökçe said: “What hurt me the most was the inability to throw two handfuls of dirt on his grave.”

“MY BROTHER HAS NOT BEEN GIVEN THE TITLE OF Martyrdom”

In stating that the government did not promise to receive the title of martyrdom during the mining disaster, Osman Gökçe used the following statements:

* It was said that after my brother died in the mine, he would be awarded the title of martyr.

* When my father’s psychology deteriorated after my brother’s death, I said ‘the father of the martyr’ when I brought him to the hospital, but the staff there said ‘there is no such thing in the system’.

* In the hospital we learned that my brother was not given the title of martyr.

* But still, God bless our state, both my brother’s family and my father received financial and moral help.
