In Switzerland’s canton of Geneva, people went to the polls to vote on the minimum wage. People rejected it with 54 percent rejecting votes in the 2011 referendum and 66 percent rejecting votes in the 2014 referendum. 57.8 percent of the people said “yes” to the minimum wage plus top of the world. The minimum wage will be 4,100 Swiss francs (33,880 TL). The minimum hourly wage was 23 Swiss francs (TL 190).
In the canton of Geneva, Switzerland, the public went to the polls Sunday for the world’s highest minimum wage proposal.
In the referendum, 57.8 percent of the people said “yes” to the highest minimum wage in the world. Consequently, the minimum hourly wage in Geneva was 23 Swiss francs (TL 190).
According to the new law approved in the referendum, the monthly minimum wage will be 4,100 Swiss francs (TL 33,880), based on 40 hours of work per week.
Geneva has twice held a referendum on the minimum wage. The minimum wage proposal was rejected with 54% rejecting votes in the 2011 referendum and 66% rejecting votes in the 2014 referendum.
Although there is no applicable minimum wage in Switzerland, only three of the 26 cantons are in force. The average monthly salary in the country is around 6,500 Swiss francs, or around 53,793 TL.
