Speaking at Samsun, Minister Koca said: “We have implemented a lot of investments in health in our provincial center and districts so far. In our meeting with our esteemed governor, we made detailed assessments about the health facilities and especially the city hospital that Samsun it also needs these investments. We will have more detailed explanations on this matter, “he said.
“OUR CASE INCREASE RATE IS UNDER CONTROL”
Minister Koca said: “We have been struggling with the coronavirus epidemic for 6 months. Unfortunately, the significant decrease we experienced by strictly following the rules was not sustainable. Taking the disease lightly, not complying with the rules of cleanliness, mask and distance left us confronted with images that we did not want again.
Our number of patients and losses began to increase again. In this case, not just for the whole world to Turkey. The increase in the number of our patients is not the same in all regions. While we see unwanted increases in some of our provinces, we can keep the epidemic under control in some of our provinces and regions thanks to robust measures and the sensitivity of our citizens.
I would like to say that our rate of increase in cases has been controlled thanks to the measures taken and the strict control throughout the country during the last week, but this should never force us. As you know, the density of hospitals in various regions in recent weeks. Although especially in our provinces of central and eastern Anatolia, we have had problems from time to time in all major cities.
“SAMSUN IS EXPOSED TO A MAJOR HUMAN MOVEMENT”
It has become one of the centers in Samsun and the surrounding provinces that we have studied as a Ministry of Health. Samsun is subject to significant human movement as it is the crossroads into the Black Sea region. There is a possibility that the disease will spread further due to it returning to other provinces in late summer. Therefore, Samsun has a critical place in terms of epidemic control throughout the country. I would especially like to say that with the fast and effective interventions we did for the Samsun surge, the number of cases decreased by a third in the last week compared to a month ago. We expect the number of patients to decrease further within 10 days a week, after controlling for the rate of increase. Our goal is to reduce the number of patients and our hospital burden day by day with the measures we will take.
“The sooner we diagnose the contacts, the more successful we will be”
At Samsun, we have increased the number of radiation teams for Samsun to 175 during this period, especially in the field, which significantly affects our success rate in the epidemic. The average contact scan in Turkey could be downloaded up to 13 hours. At Samsun we contacted our 9 hour follow-up time which is already below the Turkish average.
This will be an important warning to our citizens of Samsun; In our city, the patient rate among our seniors over 60 is quite high. The ratio of this age group to the population is 17 percent in Samsun, but our patient rate is 28 percent, or 65 percent more. We know that the disease is more serious after 60 years. For this reason, it is the duty of all Samsun residents, especially the young, and of ourselves to better protect our elders. The earlier we identify the contacts, the more successful we will be in controlling the epidemic. Turkey is one of the best countries to follow up on contact. We also put this power on the field in Samsun. I mean we will see more of this effect in the coming days. Cleanliness, mask and distance are our most important strength against this epidemic. We see the images that we do not want in all the countries and provinces that commit to these measures. In that sense, I invite all my fellow citizens to stick with the measures, “he said.
