Israel has proposed the participation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum. Israeli Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz said in a written statement: “We made a proposal for the UAE to participate in the Forum. Member countries said they would examine it.”
OPPORTUNITIES FOR COOPERATION WERE DISCUSSED
According to the news in AA, Steinitz yesterday discussed cooperation opportunities with UAE Energy Minister Suheyl bin Muhammed al-Mezrui on gas transportation to Europe. In the statement made by the United Arab Emirates news agency regarding the meeting, the ministers of the two countries stated that the issues of strengthening cooperation in the field of energy and infrastructure were discussed, above the oil, gas and especially the field of renewable energy.
EGYPT: “BECOME A REGIONAL ORGANIZATION”
In a written statement made by the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, it was announced that the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum became a regional organization with the participation of 6 countries. The Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum was established on January 16, 2019 with the participation of the energy ministers of Greece, the Greek Cypriot administration, Israel, Egypt, Italy and Jordan, hosted by Egypt.
The Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum, which held its second meeting on January 16, 2020, agreed to institutionalize itself on the basis of “energy security for the benefit of the peoples of the member states.”
