The following statements were made on the Twitter account of the United States Embassy in Ankara with the note, “There have been many opinions in the Turkish press about the map called ‘Map of Seville’ so far”.
* The United States, in principle, does not take a position in disputes relating to the maritime jurisdictions of other states.
* Regarding the ‘legal status’ of the Seville Map, the USA does not consider the Seville Map to have any legal significance.
* We see that the European Union does not consider the Map of Seville as a legally binding document.
* Maritime jurisdictions are decided by the agreement reached between the relevant states based on the law.
* The US firmly supports the dialogue and negotiations in good faith and understanding of Turkey and Greece, to encourage exploratory talks will be restarted as soon as possible.
AKAR HAS MADE AN EXPLANATION ABOUT ‘SEVILLA MAP’
Hulusi Akar, Minister of National Defense, conducted examinations and inspections at the Navy Command on August 14, 2020.
Minister Akar made the following statements, also referring to Meis Island:
* 2 Meis Island to Turkey, Greece 580 kilometers. An area 10 square kilometers wide. In this field, you give up about 1,800 kilometers of Turkey’s coastline, 40 thousand square kilometers, you dare to give it a maritime jurisdiction, law, justice, I could not explain the logic and reason.
* It is not possible to accept this. This is really a futile effort, a claim that cannot be accepted. You have to see and understand that the map created like the map of Seville is not valid, does not recognize the right, the law, does not contribute to peace and stability here, and also creates a problem.
* Republic of Turkey, the Turkish Armed Forces, 83 million, so in no way are we on this map of Seville or a similar tool with enforcement demands and on our shores almost everyone should know that we will not accept imprisonment.
