Another scandal emerged after health professionals working on film crews in Ankara reported that the VIP patient period began in Ankara, that these people were screened despite not obeying the determined algorithm and showing no symptoms.
Health workers, ambulances and 112 teams from the 112 Emergency Health Services explained that they were mobilized for VIP Covid-19 patients.
“WARN OUR VIP PATIENT”
According to the news from İsmail Arı de Birgün; A health worker, who works as an ambulance driver at 112 Emergency Health Services in Ankara and does not want to be identified, emphasized that calls cannot be accessed at the 112 Call Center and therefore , citizens cannot reach 112, and he said: “Case reports are sent to us by phone or radio. In the notification of the case, they refer us to Covid-19 cases that do not have an emergency, saying ‘the case is the person’s family member, this person knows’ or clearly ‘our VIP patient’. Even if we go to another case, this one is canceled and we are directed to ‘VIP torpedo patients’. When we go to the VIP Covid-19 patient, we see that he has nothing, has a car or can walk. Sometimes we take the VIP patient to the hospital by ambulance even though he does not need an ambulance, or the VIP patient says’ I don’t want to go to the hospital, look at me here, at home.
“WE HAVE DIFFICULTIES TO CAPTURE EMERGENCY CASES”
“They want us to give special treatment to VIP Covid-19 patients,” said the ambulance driver who works at 112 Emergency Health Services, saying: “VIP patients are relatives of politicians, they can also be relatives from someone who works in the Ministry of Health or 112 command centers. There are also VIP patients who openly say that I work in the ministry or that I am a politician. With the increase in Covid-19 cases and our being directed to VIP Covid-19 patients who do not have an urgency and we are targeting VIP Covid-19 patients who have no urgency, ‘we now have a difficult time reaching someone injured in an accident traffic or emergency patients who had a heart attack, ‘he said.
NOW WE CANNOT DISINFECT AMBULANCES
An emergency medical technician working at 112 Emergency Health Care Services in Ankara, who did not want to be named, said: “We were working more comfortably in the first 4-5 months of the pandemic. Our number of positive or suspected cases related to Covid-19 was only 4-5 in 24 hours. When we brought positive patients, they allowed us to rest for an hour and during this time we were cleaning and ventilating the ambulance, but this one-hour license was also removed. Recently, the number of positive cases we handle and our workload have increased so much that we no longer have time to disinfect and ventilate ambulances. I had two positive patients in a row the night before. We also have shortages of gloves, masks and protective gear from time to time, ”he said.
A SERIOUS 112 CRISIS IS HAPPENING
Explaining that a 112 team in Ankara transported around 10 Covid-19 patients in 24 hours, the emergency medical technician completed his words as follows:
“We believe that the daily number of cases announced by the Ministry of Health never reflects the truth. Ambulances are no longer enough, and almost half of the health professionals working in the field have contracted Covid-19. Around 150 112 crews dropped to 70 over a period because these teams caught Covid-19. This makes other teams work even harder. Yesterday we received a code red fall incident. The citizen fell at home and could not move his neck, we immediately took him to the hospital, but they did not want to take the patient, saying ‘the hospital is full of Covid-19’. There is a very serious 112 crisis, and if it continues like this, this ambulance crisis will reach a very serious level. For Covid-19 patients who do not need an ambulance, vehicles should be assigned in the same way as radiation teams and the workload of 112 teams should be reduced.
