Turkey’s tensions with Greece in the eastern Mediterranean, where the European Union (EU) remains a hot topic on the agenda.
From September 24 to 25, the pre-summit will bring together EU leaders, movements and statements by senior officials on the succession of Turkey. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, made surprising statements in the Plenary of the European Parliament.
‘CAN’T JUDGE APPROACH’
Noting that the foreign policy of EU countries must make faster decisions, von der Leyen said that Turkey would not accept intimidation of Greece, “Turkey is a neighboring country and it will always be important.” We are geographically close, but the distance between us increases. Turkey lives in a region with some problems. “It is home to millions of immigrants, but nothing justifies the attempts to intimidate its neighbors,” she said.

Reiterating his statements of support for southern Cyprus and Greece, von der Leyen said: “The easing of tension in the region benefits all parties. All we have to do is avoid making unilateral decisions. “This is the path to stability,” he said.
BORRELL: RELATIONSHIPS AT A POINT OF TURN
The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, also spoke with Turkey yesterday.

Borrell, the EU urged Ankara saying that the turning point in relations with Turkey to step back from the conflict in the eastern Mediterranean and the protection of basic human rights in the country.
“Relations are at the crossroads, they go from one side to another, depending on what happens in the next few days,” Borrell said in a statement to the European Parliament.
