It was warned that the dust cloud that emerged yesterday in Ankara’s Polatlı district will continue its effect throughout the week.
Speaking on the subject, the Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics of Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Member of the Faculty of Meteorological Engineering Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Toros stated that the Modeling Team of the Department of Meteorological Engineering of the ITU immediately evaluated the incident and said: “High pressure areas in the north of our country and low pressure areas in the south are effective. Especially in these periods, the transport of dust from Africa and the Arabian peninsula is known to affect the quality air conditions from Central Anatolia and Southeastern Anatolia regions … more frequently as dust transport in the spring season in Turkey, which will come into effect during the week, “he said.
Hüseyin Toros stated that the dust storm that occurred yesterday was a completely local formation and continued as follows:
“The strong temperature difference caused by the gathering of hot air due to the strong warming at levels close to the earth and the cold air at high levels of the atmosphere caused a strong instability of the air in the region.
Strong updrafts in the cumulonimbus cloud that developed yesterday in Ankara, as well as strong winds caused objects such as dust and sand to be blown away. Strong updrafts and downdrafts in the cloud triggered a dust storm in the region, followed by thunderstorms and lightning. The excessive instability in the atmosphere, the sudden and severe winds that occurred during the transition of the system and an arid earth structure caused a large amount of dust to lift off the ground. “
“STRONG WINDS CAN CAUSE LOSS OF LIVES AND PROPERTY”
Stating that other objects, especially dust, flying through the air in strong winds can cause loss of life and property, Toros said: “Dust rising from the ground has negative effects on our respiratory and circulatory systems.
To avoid loss of life and property, it is of utmost importance that objects that can fly in strong winds on the balconies and roofs of houses are well anchored in their places. It is extremely important that doors and windows are closed during such high winds. Strong winds can cause old or weak trees to topple over, “he said.
