The defendant Mahmut AK refused to accept the accusation in his defense, saying: “The place that the victims claim is the classroom environment. Such incidents cannot occur in an environment where there are many students.”
Up to 800 years in prison is requested
The defendant’s lawyer also said that the accusations against the normal course of life did not reflect the truth. In explaining his opinion, the prosecutor for the hearing stated that he believed that the defendant committed the crime of “qualified sexual abuse” against 27 children and demanded that the teacher be sentenced to a prison term of up to 800 years.
“Specialized courts should be established as soon as possible”
Although the hearing was postponed, the Saadet Teachers Association to Combat Child Abuse, in the wake of the case, also issued a press release upon departure. Speaking on behalf of the association, lawyer Hilal Özlem Çağlar said that they wanted specialized courts to be established as soon as possible.
