We have witnessed cases where treatment services were provided at astronomical numbers, where those without health insurance were allowed to die. – The pandemic has profoundly shaken all areas of our lives from its consequences. We still feel the aftermath of the epidemic in many areas. In the first half of 2020 there have been significant losses in production on a global scale, an increase in unemployment rates and changes in consumption habits.
– In the economy of the second quarter of 2020, Japan contracted 10 percent, Germany 11.7 percent, France 19 percent, England 21.7 percent and Spain 22.1 percent. Turkey grew 4.4 percent in the first quarter with a 9.9 percent contraction in the second quarter, the rate was resisted by these countries.
– We have protected our citizens, artisans, merchants and companies against the negative effects of the epidemic. We did not fall into the trap that the opposition wanted to put us into. Instead of making impulsive decisions, we run the process in cold blood. We have brought our country to this day using the advantages of the Presidential Government system in the best way.
– It is not possible to get out of an epidemic of this type without suffering damage. It is a fact that also negatively affects us in some lines of business. However, compared to other countries, we managed to keep this effect to a minimum. We have put our economy back on track with normalization steps.
– We broke records in auto and home sales thanks to easy access to financing and appropriate loan opportunities. We see that the recovery of our exports continues with normalization. The ratio of exports without gold to exports was 82.9 percent in August.
– Another novelty is that the number of tourists reached 10 million in the first 8 months. As of July 2020, the industry’s annualized return on equity and return on assets stood at 11.8 percent and 1.6 percent, respectively. The capital adequacy ratio is 19.2 percent, well above the legal minimum level of 8 percent.
– Our country has lived through the days when interest rates were 7,500 percent overnight. We have seen periods when tax revenue could not cover interest payments. We remember the days when we opened handfuls for a few billion dollars at the gates of the IMF. Under the spiral of the exchange rate, interest and inflation, our economy has been skewed for years with crises that recur almost every 10 years.
– With the reforms that we have implemented since 2002, we avoid wasting resources and time in the economy. We have earned our country its economic independence by paying its debt to the IMF. What did they say “go get a loan from the IMF”. We said: “It is your virtue, your glory. We have never been a government that knocks on the door of the IMF, we will not be.” we said. The IMF knocked on our door during my tenure as Prime Minister. They asked us for a loan of $ 5 billion.
– Turkish exchange rates, interest rates and inflation will continue to frustrate the compression effort. We go through a critical curve. This attack, which broke the balance in the world, opened new windows of opportunity for countries with high production capacity like us. I hope that our country comes out of this epidemic process by strengthening its economy.
– All members of our nation must take action in full mobilization. Turkey will guarantee that insurance. We will not be closed to pessimism nor will we be complacent. I invite our nation once again to obey the rule of cleanliness, mask and distance.
