In a statement made by the German government, it was claimed that the Russian opposition leader Navalni was poisoned.
“Germany condemns this attack in the strongest possible way,” said the German government spokesman, who claimed that Navalny had strong evidence that he was poisoned with a nerve-affecting chemical called Novichok.
Merkel said: “We are waiting for an explanation from Russia.”
WHO IS ALEXEI NAVALNY?
Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, 44, who was ill on the plane during his return from Siberia to Moscow last month, is considered the most important rival of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Known for his fight against corruption in the country, former lawyer Navalny is known for his protests in front of the Kremlin.
While Aleksey Navalny, who was frequently imprisoned, remained in prison from 2012 to 2014, the European Court of Human Rights found Moscow guilty of human rights violations. The court ruled that Navalny was detained for political reasons.
