Former AK Party MP Mujahid Pehlivan dies

According to the information obtained, Pehlivan, 23rd deputy of TBMM, died in the hospital where he was treated for lung cancer.

Pehlivan, who was elected a CHP MP from the DSP quota in the general elections held on July 22, 2007, later resigned from his party, the DSP. Pehlivan, who was an independent member of parliament for a time, later joined the AK Party.

Born in Ankara on June 20, 1963, Pehlivan graduated from Gazi University School of Medicine, completed his specialization at Ankara Numune Hospital, and his master’s degree in orthopedics from Semmelweis University in Budapest.

Pehlivan, who worked as a specialist at the Kazan State Hospital, continued his academic career at the Semmelweis University in Budapest and became a member of the faculty.

Pehlivan, who was on the team that performed the world’s first cartilage transplant, was appointed Chief Physician of Ankara Gazi State Hospital. Pehlivan, who also hosted a health program on a television channel, had a permanent press card.

The Pehlivan also served as a physician to the late Prime Minister Bülent Ecevit.

Mücahit Pehlivan, who speaks fluent English and Hungarian, intermediate level Italian and Russian, was married with two children.
