In Iran, Romina Ashrafi was beheaded by her father at her family home in Talesh, Gilan state, on May 21. The 14-year-old Romina’s murder sparked backlash, while the court’s punishment increased anger in the country.
Despite the request for “death penalty” from Romina’s mother, Rana Dashti, Romina’s father, whose name was not disclosed, was sentenced to nine years in prison.

According to ILNA, Iran’s criminal code does not provide for a death sentence as a result of a father killing his own child, the court can only sentence the accused to fines and imprisonment.
