The UNSC extended the mandate of the UN Interim Task Force (UNIFIL) stationed in Lebanon for another year, but reduced the number of peacekeepers in the mission amid pressure and threats from states. United to veto the decision.

The resolution also calls on the Lebanese government to have swift, unhindered and full access to all areas requested by UN peacekeepers, including tunnels on the Blue Line between Israel and them.
UNIFIL was established in 1978 after Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanon. UNIFIL has been serving in southern Lebanon for 42 years, and its mandate is renewed every year.
