The number of unemployed over 15 and children in Turkey compared to the same period last year decreased by 502 thousand people in the period of February 2020 was 4 million 228 thousand people. The number of employed persons decreased by 602 thousand persons in February 2020 compared to the same period of the previous year, and became 26,175 persons, and the employment rate decreased by 1.7 points to 43.1%.
In this period, the number of employed persons decreased by 530 thousand in the agricultural sector, 93 thousand in the construction sector, 183 thousand in the services sector and 205 thousand in the industrial sector. 15.5% of the employees were in agriculture, 20.9% in industry, 5.2% in construction and 58.3% in the service sector.
The labor force participation rate was 49.9%
The labor force decreased by 1 million 102 thousand people in February 2020 compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 30 million 982 thousand people, and the participation rate in the labor force decreased by 2.6 points to 49.9%.
The informal worker rate was 30.0%
In the period of February 2020, the proportion of unregistered employees, which showed the proportion of employees among total employees, regardless of any social security institution, decreased by 3.5 points compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 30.0%. The rate of informal workers in the non-agricultural sector decreased by 2.6 points compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 20.2%.
Public employment increased by 4.0%
According to data compiled by the Presidency’s Budget and Presidential Strategy, total public employment increased by 4.0% in the first period of 2020 compared to the same period of 2019 and reached 4 million 699 thousand people.
The unemployment rate in the age group of 15 to 64 years was 13.9%, the employment rate was 47.6%
In the age group of 15 to 64 years, the unemployment rate decreased by 1.1 points compared to the same period of the previous year to 13.9% and the non-agricultural unemployment rate decreased by 1.4 points to 15.5%. The employment rate in this age group was 47.6% with a decrease of 1.7 points, and the participation rate in the labor force was 55.4% with a decrease of 2.6 points.
The unemployment rate in the young population was 24.4%, the employment rate was 29.5%
The unemployment rate in the young population, which encompasses the age group of 15-24 years, decreased by 1.7 points compared to the same period of the previous year to 24.4% and the employment rate decreased by 2.5 points to 29.5%. In the same period, the labor force participation rate decreased by 4.2 points to 39.1%. The proportion of those who are not in education or in employment was made in 26.7% with an increase of 1.9 points compared to the same period of the previous year.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 12.7%, the employment rate was 44.3%
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged compared to the previous period, reaching 12.7%. The number of unemployed decreased by 67 thousand compared to the previous period and reached 3,996 thousand.
The seasonally adjusted employment rate decreased by 0.9 points compared to the previous period and became 44.3%. The number of people employed decreased by 495 thousand and was estimated at 27 million 509 thousand.
The seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate decreased by 1 point compared to the previous period and became 50.7%. The number of participants in the labor force decreased by 562 thousand and was estimated at 31 million 505 thousand.
According to economic activity, seasonally adjusted employment decreased by 218 thousand people in the agricultural sector, 56 thousand in the industrial sector, 28 thousand in the construction sector and 194 thousand in the services sector.
