The Istanbul Medical Ward (ITO) who passed away the same day; Dr. Ahmet Oğuz Tectenlı, Dr. Mehmet Karakum, Dr. Ahmet Zare and Dr. Rıza Ferruh İlter and Dr. A moment of silence was observed by Mustafa Selek in front of the Mecidiyeköy Private Environmental Hospital.
“THE OUTBREAK SPREAD FROM ISTANBUL TO ALL ANATOLIA”
Speaking at the beginning of the silence, ITO Secretary General Prof. Dr. Osman Küçükosmanoğlu said the following:
We have mentioned the deficiencies in the management of the process since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic. We said there is no transparency.
At first, we did not keep our criticism harsh so that the Ministry of Health would not wear out. However, the deficiencies reached such a point that the epidemic was almost over, especially after the rapid opening process, which began in the summer and which we did not approve, that we found risky.
The epidemic spread from Istanbul to all of Anatolia.
“THE COUNTRY DOES NOT MAINTAIN AN OUTSTANDING MANAGEMENT, KEEPING ISTANBUL”
Stating that there has been an explosion in the epidemic since October, Küçükosmanoğlu said:
At this point where hospitals and intensive care beds are full, we as the Istanbul Medical Chamber say that a complete closure is required, not half measures.
The figures that we announce with the comments we receive from the field and the death figures announced by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality show that it is no longer possible to cover or hide the facts.
Outbreak management is not holding up well in the country, especially in Istanbul.
“WE REQUEST 2 WEEKS OF COMPLETE CLOSURE IMMEDIATELY”
Küçükosmanoğlu continued his statement with the following words:
We say that the measures taken are not enough and we urgently demand a total closure of 2 weeks.
In this process, state resources must be used for citizens. Workers, laborers and small traders who cannot work and experience socio-economic losses should be supported.
With such support, the epidemic can be controlled with a complete shutdown. Otherwise, we will continue to lose our lives.
Yesterday we lost 5 companions in a single day. It’s enough.
“WE NEED MORALITY, STEPS OF MOTIVATION”
In stating that the health of healthcare professionals is very important to society, ITO President Prof. Dr. Pınar Saip used the following statements:
If we cannot survive, it will not be possible to manage this epidemic.
One of our important demands is that Covid-19 be accepted as an occupational disease for healthcare workers and enacted immediately. Health workers are in a much worse situation than in the early days of the epidemic.
We are exhausted, we fight. That is why we need moral and motivating steps.
It must be ensured that the necessary measures are taken to guarantee both the improvement of our personal rights, the appropriate protection measures and the rapid control of the epidemic in society.
“EVERY DAY WE LOSE 200 PEOPLE TO A PREVENTABLE DISEASE”
Saip said the most urgent step to take is complete closure for at least 2 weeks. “Every day we lose 200 people to preventable diseases, this situation is very painful,” he said.
