The altruistic fight by health professionals to keep those who have been treated for the corona virus alive continues. Healthcare workers who sweat for hours in protective coveralls, masks, and clothing used to treat Covid-19 patients have also been living away from their families for months. Healthcare workers, drenched in sweat within minutes while working in special protective clothing, can be recognized by looking at their names written on the overalls.
Of the healthcare professionals who went to great lengths to keep patients alive, 216 have died so far. The total number of cases among health professionals exceeded 120 thousand.
“MOST DRAMATIC SITUATION IN TURKEY”
Gazi University School of Medicine, Head of the Department of Public Health and member of the Social Sciences Committee of the Ministry of Health. Dr. Necmi Mustafa Ilhan, said that the professional groups of health workers most affected by the corona virus, said that the situation is even more surprising in Turkey, according to world figures.
Prof. Dr. İlhan said: “In fact, healthcare professionals at the forefront make up 120,000 out of 1,900,000 people infected. When we look at it from this point of view, there is a really serious density. In other words, one in 15 infected people is a healthcare worker, and one in 10 people with corona patients is a healthcare worker. In addition, the wives of health workers, their families, health professionals have attracted the biggest burden indeed, Covidien-19 patients in Turkey, we think big and it will be a very good approach to say that their families “, said.
Noting that more than 200 health professionals died from the corona virus, Prof. Dr. İlhan said: “There are health workers who are on duty again, even though they tested positive twice. Health professionals do not only serve in hospitals during the corona virus process. “There are positives among health professionals who are filming in the field, 112 of our colleagues, there are positives from our pharmacists.”
“DIRECT OCCUPATIONAL DISEASE”
Prof. Noting that the corona virus is a direct occupational disease from a medical point of view, Dr. İlhan said: “This person contracted the corona virus because he works. Of course, there may have been a contact with the corona virus outside. But when we look at the philosophy of occupational health safety, if there is a risk related to disease in the place where the person works, it must be interpreted directly in favor of the employee and health workers must be diagnosed with an occupational disease. It is a very correct practice to support health professionals, have their legal rights after being infected with the coronavirus disease and give support to the widows and orphans of the deceased who remain ”.
“OUR HEALTH DEPENDS ON THE HEALTH OF OUR PEOPLE”
Assoc. Ankara City Hospital Intensive Care Clinic Officer. Dr. Stating that the health of healthcare professionals depends on the citizens, Dilek Kazancı said:
“The more our citizens protect themselves and pay attention to these isolation conditions, the less intensity our healthcare professionals will be exposed to. It will be much more comfortable to apply your own insulation measures when they are exposed to lower density. Therefore, our health depends on the health of our people; It depends on the care and self-protection of our people. That is why we ask for your maximum attention. May you both protect yourselves and protect us. Health professionals take all necessary precautions when treating patients in conditions of global isolation. But as you know, as the density of patients increases, healthcare professionals can leave out certain things and healthcare professionals can make mistakes. “In order for healthcare professionals to work in more comfortable conditions and with more care, our patients or our people must fully adapt to the conditions of isolation.” (DHA)
