Trump responds to Blasio’s plan for the BLM mural outside the Trump Tower

President Trump responded Thursday to plans reported by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to install a mural honoring Black Lives Matter in front of the Trump Tower in Manhattan, complaining that the mural’s yellow letters would harm the “legendary and beautiful”. Fifth Avenue “in front of the building.

De Blasio’s plan was previously reported by the New York Post and is one of several such murals to be installed in the city. She also appears to be copying a similar mural commissioned by Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser from the recently dedicated “Black Lives Matter Plaza” just outside the White House grounds.

DC MAYOR BOWER REVEALS ‘BLACK LIVES MATTER PLAZA’ NEAR WHITE HOUSE

“I was told that @NYCMayor Bill de Blasio wants to paint the legendary and beautiful Fifth Avenue, right in front of Trump Tower / Tiffany, with a big yellow Black Lives Matter sign,” Trump tweeted. “‘Pigs in a blanket, frying’ Em Like Bacon ‘, referring to killing the police, is their song. The NYPD is furious!”

After Bowser unveiled the DC plaza, which was complete with “Black Lives Matter” painted in giant yellow letters on the street, Trump also insulted her.

“@MayorBowser is extremely incompetent and in no way qualified to run a major city like Washington, DC,” said Trump. “If the great men and women of the National Guard didn’t step forward, they would look no better than their counterpart, the mayor in Minneapolis!”

Black Lives Matter protesters have used the song “Pigs in a blanket, fry like bacon” in recent years, though it’s unclear whether it has been used in the most recent protests in the wake of George Floyd’s death while in custody. Police.

But as some protests have turned into riots, the police have been assaulted and harassed in recent weeks, and a police compound in Minneapolis was even burned by rioters who disfigured large parts of that city.

Trump was also right that at least some NYPD officers are upset by the mural in front of the Trump Tower.

“Do you think about your decisions,” the Benevolent Association of Sergeants of the New York Police Department tweeted. “The street is a frozen area for the Secret Service. All this does is create a greater security risk. Why not on 34th Street next to Madison Sqaure Garden, Macy’s Penn Station? Millions of people travel. Why? Because he’s playing politics. “
