WASHINGTON (AP) – After a campaign marked by the president and fear, Americans on Tuesday decided between President Donald Trump and Democrat John Biden to choose a leader to run a nation plagued by an epidemic that killed more than 230,000 people. Their millions cost jobs and shaped daily life.
Nearly 100 million Americans voted early and now election voters have to complete the task, a campaign that was replaced by a coronavirus and defined by stress as to who could best address it. Each candidate declared another fundamentally unfit to lead a nation glowing with COVID-19 and facing fundamental questions about racial justice and economic justice.
Biden entered the race on election days with a number of roads to play while Trump had short-term catch-ups playing in many battlefield states, but there is still a possible way to get 270 votes in the Electoral College Ledge. Senate control was also at stake: Democrats would need three seats if Biden took over the White House to gain control of Washington for the first time in a decade. The House was expected to be under democratic control.
Voters lined up and feared the virus, threatening to vote, as they chose between two different perspectives on America for the next four years. The preliminary vote on the recording setting – and the legal clash over how it would be counted – drew unsubstantiated allegations of fraud from Trump, who refused to guarantee respect for the election result.
Fighting to the end for every vote, Biden was flown to Philadelphia and his native Scranton on Tuesday before awaiting election results in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware. His running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris was visiting Detroit, a heavily black city in Michigan on the battlefield. As Democrats reached for a clear victory, both of their partners also walked out.
Trump planned to visit his campaign headquarters in Fox News, Virginia, after a morning appearance on his pro-network. He invited hundreds of supporters to an election-night party in the East Room of the White House.
Vigorous campaigners are eager to move voters on both sides.
Starlet Holden, a 26-year-old medical biller from Queens, New York, who planned to vote for Biden but spoke to many on both sides of the campaign, said, “I just want to do that.”
On the final full day of the campaign, Trump and Biden, on a very fierce battlefield, visited Pennsylvania, crashed into the mechanics of the vote.
The president threatened to take legal action to stop the counting of ballots after election day. If the Pennsylvania vote count takes several days, as allowed, Trump claimed without evidence that “fraud can happen in a way you’ve never seen.”
In fact, there are about 20 states that allow the mail-in ballot received after election day to be counted – in some states for nine days and longer. The lawsuit focuses on a few of the centers where most of the changes have been made in states due to the coronavirus.
Biden told voters in Pennsylvania that the nation’s very fabric is at stake and he offered his election because it was made possible by the president who said he was “dividing us four years at every turn”.
“Tomorrow is the beginning of a new day. Tomorrow we can end a president who has left hardworking Americans in the cold! Biden said in Pittsburgh. “If you choose me as president, I will work to heal this country.”
Trump argued at a stop in Wisconsin that Biden “does not meet the needs of our country.” He added: “This isn’t about it – yes, it’s about me, I think, when you think about it.”
For Trump, the election was like a four-year term in office, a term in which he turned Washington to its will, challenged its trust in its institutions, and changed how America was viewed worldwide. In a country divided by caste and class, they often acted as rebels against the government under their leadership, cutting off its scientists and bureaucracy, and waging war on the media.
The nation tied to what was to come – and the result that was probably not known for days.
A new anti-scale fence was erected around the White House. And in downtown from New York to Denver to Minneapolis, workers went into business so that voting might not take place due to a vote that erupted earlier this year amid protests of racial inequality.
After a short walk from the White House, for the barrier behind the block, the stores had their windows and doors covered. Just kept the front door open in the hope of attracting some business.
Both candidates voted early, but first lady Melania Trump cast her ballot Tuesday near Mar-a-Lago, the couple’s property in Palm Beach, Florida.
Candidates in the battlefield states were blown away on Monday, with Biden also pushing for Ohio to be safe for Trump. The president, for his part, filled the five-lane, Air Force One, skyrocketing as he pulled the crowd to North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and then again to Michigan.
His final past was a lengthy run until midnight at the Grand Rapids, where he also held his last rally in 2016. It marked the end of an era in American politics, part of which was defined by a large and noble gathering that continued despite warnings from the president. In the Grand Rapids, Trump reiterated that the nation is “turning the corner” on the virus. “We are entering the most relevant and deadliest phase of this epidemic,” Birks wrote in a memo distributed to top officials of the administration. He added that the nation was not implementing “balanced” measures to slow the spread of the virus. One recipient confirmed the contents initially reported Monday by the Washington Post.
The epidemic has overshadowed the campaign, which is largely a referendum by Trump on handling the virus.
In New Hampshire’s Cincinnati, 70-year-old Linda Eastman said she was voting for Trump, saying, “Maybe he wasn’t full of coronavirus, but I think he did his best with what he did. ”
On Virginia Beach, he votes for 54-year-old Gabriela Cochrane’s Biden, who said he believes the former vice president will be “around the brightest and best people” to fight the epidemic.
The challenge of the initial vote count added to the level of uncertainty in the election, which was suspected by someone on duty who had consistently remained illegal in the election.
In Pennsylvania, Trump nullified the state’s process of counting mail-in votes after election day, saying “we’re going with our lawyers” as the election approaches. He tweeted – without evidence – that “violence on the street” could follow the Supreme Court’s decision to extend the counting of votes that arrived after Tuesday.
Trump offered voters to fur himself as the same outsider he wore to voters four years ago, insisting he was not yet a politician. Biden, for his part, was an incompetent leader at the time of the Cast Trump crisis, trying to reconcile what he saw on the president’s failure to contain the virus and other issues with the daily lives of Americans.
