Trevor Noah teaches Tom Cotton for calling slavery a “necessary evil”


Trevor Noah wasn’t exactly surprised that Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) had a problem teaching “Project 1619” in schools.

“There is a US senator who opposes in the strongest and possibly the most stupid terms,” Daily program The host said before diving into Cotton’s recent comments in which he seemed to agree with the Founding Fathers that slavery was a “necessary evil upon which the union was built.” The senator also called the proposed curriculum “racially divisive.”

“Wait, wait,” said Noah. “So Senator Cotton thinks this curriculum is racially divisive? Do you know what is really racially divisive? Slavery.”

The host continued to criticize Cotton for “thinking that racial division does not exist until slavery is taught at school.” But even if he chooses to believe that Cotton wasn’t actually “advocating slavery,” that “it’s not something a United States senator should do, even if his name is Cotton,” Noah joked, he still doesn’t understand why he opposes. “The Project 1619” with great vehemence.
