In a statement, the government said the measure will allow people to “vacation abroad this summer, and will also provide a vital line for UK travel operators and those whose jobs depend on the travel industry.”
He added that a full list of low-risk countries will be released next week and that travel to those destinations may resume next week.
“Our new risk assessment system will allow us to carefully open a number of safe travel routes around the world, giving people the opportunity for a summer holiday abroad and boosting the UK economy through tourism and business, “said a government spokesman.
“But we will not hesitate to stop if any risk reappears, and this system will allow us to take rapid measures to reintroduce self-isolation measures if new outbreaks occur abroad,” the spokesperson added.
Risks evaluation
Country risk is calculated using factors including “the prevalence of coronaviruses within the country, our confidence in the reliability of their data and, crucially, the path of the disease in the country,” a statement from the government.
“Low-risk countries in the green and amber categories will be exempt from public health measures at the border,” he added.
The 14-day quarantine will be maintained for international arrivals from “countries that are not yet considered safe, as well as the requirements for all passengers entering the UK to provide their contact information,” he added.
