Black Myth: Wu Kong is a newly announced Dark Souls-like game planned for PC and consoles. Seriously, though, but once in a while in the gameplay games in the trailer above – it seems incredible.
Black Myth: Wu Kong uses Unreal Engine 4 for its stunning visuals and is being developed by Chinese studio Game Science, which consists of ex-Tencent staff. The game is based on Journey to the West, as Enslaved was in 2010, and you will play as the Monkey King with access to 72 different abilities.
While there is an official website, Google’s automatic translation of Chinese ropey is, at best. Fortunately, sector analyst Daniel Ahmad joined Twitter to talk a little about the game, which provides some useful insight into the project and the team behind it.
Here’s a look at Black Myth: Wu Kong, a new single-player action-adventure / RPG game developed by Chinese indie studio Game Science Studio. It is based on Journey to the West mythology. “[It] is more than 2 years ago since planning and development began. Originally with 13 devs in the first year and ramping up to about 30 this year, “says Ahmad in another tweetje, “They developed games like God of War, Monster Hunter World and Sekiro during development, learned from each title.”
It will release almost no time
Starting with an impressive 13 minutes of gameplay is one way to impress and Black Myth: Wu Kong makes sure of that. If you are familiar with the intensely satisfying combat of games like Sekiro or Bloodborne, you are probably as excited as we are.
And even if you have never touched these games, you have to admit that it looks pretty great on a technical level.
No specific release date has been set for Black Myth: Wu Kong at this time. According to Ahmed’s Twitter thread, Game Science Studio said the game “is far from complete and the goal now is to perfect what they have been able to show in a full-length game that is worth the asking price.”
Yet just by going through the trailer alone, Black Myth: Wu Kong seems to be worth the wait.
